Różnice między IELTS Academic a IELTS General Training


Każda z osób pragnących przystąpić do egzaminu IELTS musi dokonać wyboru pomiędzy IELTS Academic, a IELTS General Training.
Poniżej zamieszczamy krótki poradnik, w którym wyjaśnimy różnice między dwoma wariantami egzaminów:

IELTS Academic Training

– ten wariant egzaminu zaleca się osobom, które mają w planach studia na anglojęzycznym uniwersytecie lub w innej placówce oświatowej. Bardzo wiele placówek szkolnictwa wyższego oferujących studia magisterskie lub doktoranckie akceptuje właśnie certyfikaty IELTS Academic.  IELTS Academic zaleca się również specjalistom (np. lekarzom) pragnącym kontynuować edukację poza granicami kraju lub zainteresowanym praktyką zawodową w krajach anglojęzycznych.

IELTS General Training

– ten wariant egzaminu przeznaczony jest dla osób, które chciałyby wyjechać do kraju anglojęzycznego - Wielkiej Brytanii, Kanady, Stanów Zjednoczonych, Australii w celu osiedlenia się, zdobycia doświadczenia zawodowego, lub podjęcia nauki w placówkach szkoleniowych oferujących poziomy wykształcenia poniżej wyższego.

Struktura egzaminu IELTS Academic oraz IELTS General Training

Zasadniczą różnicą między egzaminem IELTS Academic oraz IELTS General Training jest część pisemna (writing). Zarówno IELTS General, jak i Academic trwa 60 minut i składa się z 2 zadań.
W przypadku IELTS General pierwszym zadaniem jest napisanie listu formalnego bądź nieformalnego (na to zadanie mamy 20 minut), natomiast w wersji IELTS Academic należy dokonać analizy tabeli, wykresu, grafu lub opisać proces (na wykonanie tego zadania mamy 20 minut).
Zadanie drugie w przypadku IELTS Academic i IELTS General polega na napisaniu eseju. Czas trwania:40 minut, czyli łącznie cała część pisemna trwa 1h.

Poniżej zamieszczamy kilka przykładowych tematów:

IELTS General

Zadanie 1 (czas 20 minut, limit słów: co najmniej 150)

You play a team sport with some friends. Last week a member of the team had an accident and wasn't able to play with you at the weekend. You decide to write to him in hospital, telling him about the match.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter,

  • tell him which team won
  • describe the conditions on the day
  • say how you felt about the match

You are due to move into a rented apartment next month but you will not be able to because you have some problems.
Write a letter to the course provider. In your letter,

  • explain your situation
  • describe your problems
  • tell him/her when you think you can move in

Write a letter to an employment agency. In your letter,

  • introduce yourself
  • explain what sort of job you would like
  • and say what experience and skills you have

You live in a room in college which you share with another student. You find it very difficult to work there because he or she always has friends visiting. They have parties in the room and sometimes borrow your things without asking you.

Write a letter to the Accommodation Officer at the college and ask for a new room next term. You would prefer a single room. Explain your reasons.

Zadanie 2 (czas trwania: 40 minut, limit słów: co najmniej 250)

Modern lifestyles mean that many parents have little time for their children. Many children suffer because they do not get as much attention from their parents as children did in the past.

Do you agree or disagree?

Some people think that human history has been a journey from ignorance to knowledge. Others argue that this underestimates the achievements of ancient cultures, and overvalues our achievements. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

IELTS Academic

Zadanie 1 (czas 20 minut, limit słów: co najmniej 150)

The graph below shows the pollution levels in London between 1600 and 2000.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart below gives information about science qualifications held by people in two countries.

Zadanie 2 (czas trwania: 40 minut, limit słów: co najmniej 250)

Each year, the crime rate increases. What are the causes of crime and what could be done to prevent this rise in criminal activity?

Some people think that professional athletes make good role models for young people, while others believe they don’t. Discuss both these points of views and give your own opinion.

W sekcji, gdzie sprawdzane jest rozumienie tekstu czytanego (reading), osoby przystępujące do wariantu IELTS General otrzymują teksty bardziej ogólne i dotyczące tematów, które można spotkać w życiu codziennym. W wersji IELTS Academic należy spodziewać bardziej specyficznych tematów, gdzie największym problemem okazać się może nieznajomość słownictwa z danego obszaru. Sekcja Reading trwa 60 minut i można uzyskać 40 punktów.

Część egzaminu sprawdzająca umiejętność słuchania ze zrozumieniem (listening) trwa 40 minut, zarówno w przypadku IELTS General, jak i Academic. Po zakończonym słuchaniu nagrania, osoba przystępująca do egzaminu ma 10 minut na sprawdzenie odpowiedzi i naniesienie ich na kartę odpowiedzi.

Część ustna (speaking) trwa w obu przypadkach łącznie około 15 minut. Egzamin ma formę rozmowy z egzaminatorem. Pierwszą część stanowią pytania dotyczące osoby przystępującej do egzaminu. Część druga polega na płynnej wypowiedzi na temat zadany przez egzaminatora, a część trzecia to swobodna konwersacja na pytania zadane przez egzaminatora.

Zadanie 1

  • What are your ambitions for the future?
  • Can you describe one of your typical working days?
  • What building is considered famous in your town?
  • Which do you prefer: eating in restaurants or eating at home?
  • What are the advantages of reading instead of watching television or going to the cinema?

Zadanie 2

Take one minute to prepare a talk on the following subject.
Take notes if you like and remember to include reasons and examples.
You should then speak for between one and two minutes.
Describe a beautiful place to visit in your country.

You should say:

  • where it is
  • how to get there
  • what there is to do when you are there

and explain why you recommend this place.

Zadanie 3

Attitudes to tourism

  • Why do you think people like to travel to different places in their free time?
  • How do you see tourism changing in your country in the future?

Conserving the countryside

  • Why is it important to protect the countryside?
  • In what ways is the countryside in danger in your country?

Historic buildings and monuments

  • Why are historic buildings and monuments important to a city?
  • Is it better to keep old buildings, or build new modern ones
